Education plays a pivotal role in challenging sectarian attitudes and religious intolerance in Scotland. The Scottish Executive's work in Scottish schools to tackle sectarianism looks at ways to help pupils learn from each other, and to support them in breaking down the barriers they may feel exists between themselves and others.
This work includes promoting opportunities for twinning between denominational and non-denominational schools; supporting and funding anti-sectarian projects in schools, colleges and universities; developing anti-sectarian materials and web-based resources such as the Sectarianism: Don't Give It, Don't Take It resource for teachers, youth workers and young people; and adapting the play Singing I'm No A Billy, He's A Tim for a schools tour across Scotland.
