where we are going

The Scottish Executive anti-sectarianism resource will be reviewed next year by the Centre for Education for Racial Equality in Scotland (CERES).  We are also developing a work-plan offered by CERES to deliver a training for trainers package for authorities to use the DVD and to establish a strategic approach to taking forward anti-sectarian education in schools through the establishment of an Advisory Group, and promotional activity on the funded resources.

The Scottish Executive are also looking at a new idea to find ways of working with school age pupils to develop ideas, proposals and solutions to tackle sectarianism. We are currently looking at building on the Singing I’m No a Billy, He’s A Tim play to work with the young people who took part, to involve them in identifying solutions to sectarianism.

Following publication of the information pack on twinning in early September, the Scottish Executive will continue to promote opportunities for twinning between denominational and non-denominational schools. Twinning activities allow children and young people to get a better understanding of each other's backgrounds and foster friendships between pupils.

The second phase of the National Union of Students' Stamp Out Sectarianism campaign will begin in January 2007 and will include briefing packs for student associations and an in-depth training course, aimed at student officers with a welfare and training remit, to provide them with the skills to go back to their own institutions and run further training for students in regards to anti-sectarianism.
