The Scottish Executive has supported the Scottish Trades Union Congress in commissioning researchers from Strathclyde University to carry out research into sectarianism in the workplace. The research project itself is underway with researchers travelling the length and breadth of the country to speak to a series of focus groups of workers of different ages and from different sections of the workforce. The findings will help to broaden our thinking of how deep rooted sectarianism is in the workplace environment and how it might be tackled.
The Task Group on Tackling Sectarianism, which first met on the 2 March 2006, has been regularly meeting to map out the work being taken forward to tackle sectarianism and explore possible activities and areas of work for the Executive and key stakeholders to undertake.
Membership of the Task Group consists of an Interfaith Consultant and representatives from the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland; the Scottish Trades Union Congress and Sense over Sectarianism.
